The current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressed confidence in his victory in the second round of the presidential elections, which will be held on May 28. It is reported by TASS.
“We will get even more percent of the vote on May 28 [во втором туре голосования] compared to May 14, when [состоялся первый тур], winning. I hope it will be historic,” the Turkish leader wrote on the social network.
Erdogan noted that the elections on May 14 in Turkey were marked by a record turnout. As the CEC of the country reported in this regard, it amounted to approximately 89%. Erdogan called the elections “a celebration of democracy and 85 million Turkish citizens.” “Turkey has demonstrated that it is a country with one of the most advanced democracies,” the Turkish leader said.
The head of the Turkish CEC, Ahmet Ener, said on Monday that since none of the three candidates for the presidency of the republic won more than 50% of the votes in the elections held on May 14, the second round of voting will be held on May 28. The winner among the two contenders – incumbent President Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu – will be the politician with the most votes.
In the first round, the incumbent president of Turkey won 49.51% of the vote, the leader of the opposition – 44.88%. The representative of the Ata political bloc, Sinan Ogan, received 5.17% of the vote.
