Live images showed us a ceremony with a strong military component. European kings attend the most important events in general uniform. These usages go back to the very beginnings of the monarchical system, which arose from the imposition of foreign power by a foreign caste. All states, directly or indirectly, have a similar origin. The leader of the attacking company becomes the king, and his best troops, the nobles, will become the corresponding nobility. This scheme is also valid if small communities with a tribal structure were attacked, or if it was done against already constituted states, whose sovereigns and nobles were replaced by invaders. Let’s not go far looking for examples: in the Andes, first the Inca conquest, and then the Spanish, abound in characteristics that illustrate these concepts and all their nuances. In Ecuador, the Incas established a monarchy with blood (Yahuarcocha) and fire (Quito) that overpowered the communities of the Andean archipelago. The pre-existing “Kingdom of Quito” is a myth created to justify the existence of later states, there were not even large cities, however, a very refined culture developed. The Ecuadorian state is the successor of the Inkadom, the Spanish crown and perhaps the Bolivarian dictatorship.

Monarchy is the original, atavistic political system, the genealogy of which can be traced directly to the dominance of alpha males in mammalian herds, especially among the primate species, the zoological order to which we belong. These animals tend to live in small groups, and examples that do not show this social behavior are rare and debatable. The figure of the patriarch, the powerful father, under whose protection the instinct of the herd calms down, is the political type preferred by the great majority of mankind. From the small tribal patriarchs, this role will pass to the kings of the states and is maintained with a mutation that is only dimensional in modern dictatorships, which are monarchies wherever they are seen, however much they are called “republics” and even “democratic republics”.

Even in the republics themselves, the figure of the alpha male is still an archetype that weighs heavily on our understanding of the world, which is why a head of government or state is installed whose role is guide, dominator and provider. Hence the great preference for tax bosses, decisive and generous. Perhaps in these ape-like remains is the explanation of the expressions of our political culture, which in their clumsy simplicity demonstrate the persistence of the primitive, such as “it’s okay to steal if you do something” or “a government that does not abuse loses its prestige.” They are caricatures, but there is nothing more serious than what is said in jest. And, undoubtedly, that same spirit lurks in the opulence of the royal family, whose extravagance is well seen and even welcomed by the crowds who are moved to tears at the royal ceremonies. Even the columnist himself gives in to his specific weaknesses and is moved to see Kate Middleton in a princess outfit. (OR)
