As of May 14, Serbian citizens handed over 13,300 weapons as part of a campaign to collect illegal weapons. According to TASS, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced this.
“By this morning, 13.3 thousand units of various weapons have been collected. I am proud of this action and its results. We promised this to Serbian citizens because it is necessary and important for the greater security of all. I am grateful to people for their responsibility and I ask those who own illegal weapons to hand them over,” the head of state stressed.
Vučić, during his press conference, thanked the citizens for their active participation in the action and warned that until June 8, there will be “no consequences” for handing over illegal weapons, and after that “the state will act repressively.” He clarified that all types of weapons that meet the requirements will be transferred to the Serbian army for further use.
The President of Serbia announced a campaign to hand over illegal weapons without legal consequences for their owners after several shooting incidents occurred in the country. The campaign began on May 8 and will run until June 8. Citizens can bring weapons and ammunition to the police themselves and hand it over without explaining the origin or call a policeman to the place where the weapons are stored.
