Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that Georgia would not impose unilateral sanctions against Russia. It is reported by Interfax.
“We will not impose unilateral economic sanctions against Russia, as by this step we will create big problems for our population and business,” Garibashvili said.
At the same time, he noted that Russian companies and citizens under sanctions will not be able to use Georgian territory.
“As for trade and economy with Russia, this is in our interests. Everyone should treat this fact with understanding, and first of all, our friends, if they are really our friends and do not have any other intentions,” Garibashvili said.
He noted that he asks “European friends who advise stopping trade with Russia, not resuming flights, why don’t you do it yourself, don’t stop trade.” “Last year alone, Europe gave Russia about 300 billion,” said the Prime Minister of Georgia.
Garibashvili said that the Georgian people want peace, stability and unification of the country.
On May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on lifting restrictions on flights to Georgia, which have been in effect since July 2019. It also became known that Russia, from May 15, 2023, will cancel the visa regime for citizens of Georgia, with the exception of persons entering the Russian Federation for the purpose of labor activity.
