Georgia, after Russia’s decision to resume direct flights, will allow flights by Russian airlines, but only those carriers that are not under Western sanctions. This was stated in the Ministry of Economy of Georgia.
Earlier it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the ban for Russian airlines on flights to Georgia from May 15, 2023. The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, withdrew the recommendation to Russians to refrain from traveling to this country. The Russian authorities have also canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens.
According to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, after the ban is lifted, Russian airlines will fly between Moscow and Tbilisi seven to seven times a week.
In turn, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili believes that the abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens by the Russian leadership and the resumption of air traffic between the two countries is unacceptable today.
Recall that air traffic between the two countries was interrupted in July 2019 after the issuance of the corresponding decree of the Russian president.
