Wholesale prices for chicken meat in St. Petersburg jumped by 10-20% over the month. Fontanka writes about this, citing data from local retailers.

It is noted that the traditional rise in prices for the “kebab season” was supplemented by the weakening of the ruble and the shortage of non-branded products caused by problems with servicing imported equipment from one of the largest players in the region, the Severnaya poultry farm.

So, Fontanka was told about a sharp increase in prices for chicken meat in several retail chains.

“We are recording an increase in purchase prices and a shortage of stock poultry,” the Lenta network reported. True, they did not specify how much the cost increased, noting only that the suppliers and the stock exchange “have about the same order (of price increase).”

“Poultry farms inform and raise prices,” another federal retailer said. According to him, the price increase is in the range of 10 to 20%.

The increase in the price of chicken meat by an average of 15% was also reported in one of the fast food chains, a significant part of the assortment of which is occupied by this particular product. “Everyone has this situation,” Fontanka’s interlocutor explained.

The publication also cites a letter about the price increase from one of the largest producers in the region, the Severnaya poultry farm. The price of a broiler chicken carcass increased the most — by 23 rubles. Now, according to a company representative working with the manufacturer, the carcass is trading at 155 rubles, which is 17.4% more than a month ago.

Fontanka’s interlocutor pointed out that Cherkizovo, another manufacturer, has not yet indexed prices, but its branded products are already more expensive than those of Severnaya.

The Severnaya Poultry Farm itself reported that the increase in the price of its products was “due to numerous factors.”

Now, they noted, there really are great difficulties with the maintenance of expensive imported equipment, the supply of spare parts for it, the cost of logistics services, energy carriers, premixes, vaccines, hatching eggs, etc. have risen significantly.

Since there are no analogues in Russia and goods have to be purchased abroad, “the fact of the weakening of the ruble objectively also affects the cost of poultry meat,” Severnaya added.

As for retail prices, according to the publication, at present, chicken meat can be found on the shelves of federal chains at a price lower than wholesale. Balances the official retail price and cheaper imported frozen products.

Now Russia has two main suppliers. With a total annual import volume of 250,000 tons, about 110,000 tons come from Belarus and another 100,000 from Brazil.
