It happened on the morning of this Tuesday, November 23.
Two policemen who were conducting a routine tour aboard a patrol car in the sector of the Garay neighborhood, southwest of Guayaquil, detected a suspicious man getting into a vehicle parked on the Octava y 10 de Agosto.
When they approached the motor vehicle they were pointed out by the subject, who ran a block and jumped into the Salado estuary, near that regenerated area.
Major Carlos Mancheno, from the Nueve de Octubre district, said that after requesting support from other units, the policemen jumped into the water to catch the suspect, but he shot them while in El Salado.
The policemen dodged the projectiles.
A few minutes later, the subject was arrested when more uniforms arrived at the sector, however, the suspect threw the weapon several meters away to avoid their discovery.
Until 11:00 this Tuesday the divers of the Special Operations Group (GOE) were at the point looking for the firearm, without success.
The divers explained that there is a lot of mud in that one area and that this made the search difficult.
Meanwhile, agents transferred the detainee to the Community Police Unit (UPC) of the Garay circuit to make the respective report before his transfer to the Flagrancy Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office.
The antisocial was identified as Julián Andrés OA, who has no criminal record.
Major Mancheno also explained that the vehicle the detainee was trying to get on was driven by a second person, who managed to escape from the scene.
