Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu sees no benefit for the republic from joining Western sanctions against Russia. According to TASS, Cavusoglu said this on the air of the CNN Turk TV channel.
“The opposition says it will join the sanctions [в случае прихода к власти]. Well, Europe will praise. And what is the use of this for us? What is the benefit for Antalya and tourism? What will be useful for export? We buy about 45% of natural gas from Russia. What good will happen here?” the minister said.
Cavusoglu recalled that “Türkiye is a strong member of NATO.” “We do not need to pursue such a policy in order to be accepted. Turkey needs to stay away from politics that is formed, built from the outside. We know the goals of those in the West who are trying to shape our policy. Yes, this can be the subject of lively debate and discussion. But in the end, our nation will make the decision,” Cavusoglu said, referring to the upcoming May 14 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Earlier, Cavusoglu confirmed the position of Ankara, which does not plan to “join the unilateral sanctions that the US and the EU have imposed against Russia.”
