Scientists representing the Obesity Research Center at Tulane University in New Orleans have determined how important a commitment to a healthy lifestyle is to achieving longevity. According to MedikForum, experts analyzed the data of 23 thousand people aged 20-79 years. Based on the results of the analysis, experts have identified a number of life-prolonging factors.
Experts called compliance with the rules for the prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular system the most influential in terms of longevity. People who monitor the state of blood vessels and heart have a chance to live almost 10 years longer, the authors of the project stated.
The list of key life-prolonging factors has been expanded: smoking cessation; sufficient quality sleep; proper nutrition; physical activity; blood sugar control; control of blood cholesterol levels; maintaining a healthy weight; checking your blood pressure.
Scientific experts noted: the more factors from this list are present in a person’s life, the higher his life expectancy can be.
“People who smoke live seven years less than the average. Those people who sleep eight hours a night live five years longer. The life expectancy of people who regularly play sports is four years longer than those who lead a sedentary lifestyle, ”the scientists gave an example.
