Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he would travel to Moscow on May 10 to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and participate in quadripartite talks on Syria. It is reported by TASS with reference to the 24 TV channel.
“We have received official confirmation from Moscow. On May 10 we will leave for Moscow. In the morning I will have the opportunity to negotiate with Lavrov, and after that we will take part in a ministerial meeting [РФ — Иран — Сирия — Турция по вопросам урегулирования отношений между Анкарой и Дамаском]”, Cavusoglu stressed.
The process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus was initiated on December 28, 2022 in Moscow, when consultations were held between the heads of the military departments of Russia, Syria and Turkey. At the meeting, an agreement was reached on the establishment of a joint tripartite commission. These consultations should be followed by a meeting at the level of foreign ministers, on the agenda of which will be the issue of negotiations between the presidents of Turkey and Syria – Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad. Later it was reported that Iran would take part in consultations at the level of heads of diplomatic departments.
