Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has proposed lowering the threshold for criminal prosecution in the country from 14 to 12 years. Earlier, we recall, a seventh-grader opened fire in one of the schools in Belgrade. The boy, who shot nine people with his father’s pistol, was not yet 14 years old, therefore, according to the laws of Serbia, he is not subject to criminal liability.

According to the Novosti portal, Vučić proposed to lower the age limit for criminal liability of minors from 14 to 12 years old, in accordance with international and European standards. He suggested that the boy knew he would not be held criminally responsible.

The head of state also proposed checking all shooting galleries and firing ranges, introducing six-month drug tests in schools, increasing penalties for promoting violence on the Internet, blocking access to sites with dangerous content and the dark web.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Bratislav Gashic, said that the father of the shooting boy owned a weapon legally. The investigation believes that the shooting was planned by the schoolboy for a month: he made a list of “priority victims”, and also painted a crime plan.

Nine people became victims of the tragedy: a school security guard and eight schoolchildren.

From May 5 to May 7, mourning has been declared in Serbia.
