On April 13, the National Assembly received the Proposal for the Organic Law for the Protection and Comprehensive Development of Girls and Boys, which was drafted by the Government of the Republic of Croatia in cooperation with civil society. One of the proposals in the text is remote work for mothers of children under 6 years old.
It is an interesting approach considering that children are in the full stage of evolutionary development, and it is also an opportunity to analyze what has happened to remote work in general.
Ministerial agreement MDT-2022-237, signed on December 23, 2022, establishes that remote work covers all guarantees and rights established in the Ministry of Labour; that the parties (employer and employee) can agree at any time that the provision of the employment contract is implemented via remote work, and the validity period must be defined.
“After the pandemic, due to closures and remote work, ergonomic and psychosocial problems appeared”
Remote work contracts must be registered with the relevant ministry. The highest number of these reports was in March 2020, when there were 81,952, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic; In the whole of 2021, 24,611 contracts were signed under this modality; In 2022, there were 9,365, and between January and February 2023, 1,555.
The intention of implementing remote work for mothers of children up to 6 years of age, which should be debated in the Assembly, is good, but both for this segment and for women workers who work in this modality in general, there are a number of regulations that need to be adopted. respect so that the model does not fail, as seems to reflect the decreasing number of applicants in the Ministry of Labour.
The twelve-hour shutdown has been continuously established, but according to a study conducted by the International Labor Organization in 2021, it is not guaranteed. The issue of trust also affects the modality, for which there is a solution in tasks by objectives. And trust fraud cannot be denied, however, they all have a solution in parties and laws. (OR)
