Almost all governments, or at least those of recent decades, at that time ensured a reduction in the unemployment rate that they received when they took power.

Almost all of them also offered to create thousands of jobs in the campaign; some sure that they will not comply, and others with the hope that they will at least come close to the offer.

It is true that the working reality of the country is unfortunate. Some, in order to justify themselves, claimed that they had inherited a serious problem, that the figures obtained were not real; others, by manipulating the official figures they control and even creating categories and subcategories, have tried to justify the alleged progress.

It is true that the vast majority of this country has a hard time finding a stable job that guarantees them a decent income, commensurate (at least) with the price of a basic food basket.

As it happens in centralized Latin America, in Ecuador the capital always lives a different reality: the concentration of public institutions with excessive bureaucracy, international non-governmental organizations, private multinational companies and embassies, create an economic dynamic that makes a difference compared to other cities in the country. .. and that, therefore, they are no stranger to the sad national reality.

I present this basic social theme on the occasion of the celebration of Labor Day, on Monday of this week, in which the trade unions, despite the holiday, paraded the country with traditional slogans demanding rights, but essentially shouting at the State and the ruling class of the country for workplaces, for better working conditions and for the safety of citizens, which allows them to return to their homes alive after a working day.

It is true that the vast majority of this country has a hard time finding a stable job that guarantees them a decent income…

Crime and other violent practices in society are the subject of study throughout history. There is no doubt that every state and every city has its own causes, but one of them, common to all, is the lack of work. The need to access, in some way, the resources that enable the head of the family to provide food, shelter, education and health care for their loved ones, often leads them to fall into the temptation to commit a crime and then become a habitual offender.

The hopelessness and frustration of leaving, every day, in search of work and returning empty-handed, also feeds the perverse “class struggle” that is doing so much damage to the countryand this serves as a platform on which populist demagogues climb to power, offering what they almost never agree to.

We hope that the Government, which today is fighting an impeachment that threatens its sustainability, if it manages to overcome the crisis, overcome the pre-election discourse and really comply with the real creation of jobs, through incentives for private companies, support for micro-entrepreneurs, as well as dynamizing the economy, through much-needed public works and the generation of legal stability and security of citizens, which is so offered and so rare nowadays.
