The US administration is not preventing African countries from buying food from Russia, but is trying to deprive Moscow of oil revenues, US Assistant Secretary of State Molly Fee said at a briefing on Washington’s African policy.

She stressed that the United States is “trying hard to get all Russian food products out of sanctions,” as they realize that “they are important to many consumers around the world, including <…> in Africa, TASS reports. However, in response to a question about “whether African states will face consequences” by buying Russian oil, Fi replied: “Yes, it’s true that we are trying to deprive Russia of the revenues it receives from the sale of oil <…>“.

In turn, White House National Security Council (NSC) Senior Director for African Affairs Judd Devermont, who also spoke at the briefing, noted that, according to Washington, African countries should “choose their own partners and decide what their interests are.”
