The institution is also working on a mental health project for its employees, in addition to the psychological evaluation that they do twice a year.
AMBATO
Second corporal Cristian Mauricio Ch. M., 28, could not bear the wounds of the shot to the head that he himself would have sustained, on Saturday the 20th.
The policeman died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Ambato General Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted on the same Saturday, confirmed Colonel Marco Muñoz, commander of sub-zone 18 of the National Police in Tungurahua.
The tragic event would have occurred after an argument that the uniformed man had, outside his shift, with whom he was his sentimental partner until three weeks ago. Another person who was with them when the tragedy happened said that since the young woman did not want to return with Cristian, he took his firearm and shot himself in the head, at the level of the temple.
After the legal procedures, the body of the police officer was taken to the canton of Patate, where he was from, for his wake and subsequent burial.
The police commander said that with this case there are 75 suicides that are registered in Tungurahua so far in 2021. And from what they know so far, the triggers in these events are emotional, economic and often physical.
The uniformed man had already had a separation from a first engagement.
Police who would have shot himself in the head, with a reserved prognosis
His companions did not imagine that he would make this fatal decision. On the day of the tragedy, the policeman had been out at dawn (since he entered the night of Friday the 19th), but he handed over the patrol car without any type of novelty or characteristics that would suggest that he could take his own life.
The colonel even added that the status of the patrol partner was checked to see if they had ingested alcoholic beverages, and that was negative. After the shift, the policeman had retired to rest because he had to go back to work at 3:00 p.m.
It was after his turn when the uniformed man made contact with the young woman with whom he had had a romantic relationship until three weeks ago. The discussion with her and then the fatal event occurred when they were moving from Patate to Ambato.
To avoid these events, the Police are working on a mental health project for the institution’s servers, which is also carried out with the psychological evaluation that is carried out twice a year. (I)
