UN Secretary-General António Guterres has decided to send his Deputy for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths to Sudan due to the escalation of the crisis in the country. This was reported by the press service of the UN with reference to the official representative of the organization Stefan Dujarric.

According to Dujarric, the scale and speed of what is happening is unprecedented in Sudan. The international organization is concerned about the long-term consequences for all people in Sudan and the region as a whole.

As Griffiths noted, the humanitarian crisis in this country “has reached a critical point.”

Recall that since April 15, an armed conflict between the regular army and the RSF Rapid Reaction Forces has continued in Sudan. It broke out due to disagreements between the formations that had previously participated in two coup d’état over the issue of a further political settlement.

According to the Ministry of Health of Sudan, during the conflict, at least 528 people were killed, almost 4.6 thousand were injured.

In connection with the hostilities, many countries announced the evacuation of their citizens from Sudan, including Russia.
