Swiss Ambassador to Germany Paul Seger defended the decision of the country’s government to refuse to transfer Swiss-made ammunition to Ukraine, writes RBC with reference to the publication Augsburger Allgemeine.
“This means that we do not support military action,” the ambassador stressed, referring to the principle of neutrality that Switzerland adheres to. According to him, neutrality is “part of the DNA” of the Swiss, who refrain on principle from the use of military force.
Recall that in October the Swiss government imposed restrictions on the export of certain military goods to Ukraine due to the fact that neutrality obliges it to impose the same restrictions on the parties to the conflict. At the end of November, Switzerland banned the export of its weapons to Ukraine and Russia, also for reasons of neutrality. At the same time, Bern joined the EU sanctions against Russia and decided to comply with the ceiling imposed by Western countries on Russian oil prices.
