Shelling by the Ukrainian military of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is a potentially extremely dangerous activity that is fraught with catastrophic consequences. Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, warned about this today during a conversation with reporters.

In this regard, he stressed, the Kremlin expects that countries that have absolute influence on Kyiv will use it to prevent such shelling in the future, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian troops (AFU) last Friday fired artillery at the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP), 20 shells of 152 mm caliber were fired. As a result of this shelling, a fire broke out at the water supply, which was quickly extinguished by emergency services. And the next day, the Ukrainian side shelled the city of Energodar three times in a day, including the sanatorium of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the water intake.

Commenting on the situation, the Secretary General of the world organization, António Guterres, expressed the hope that the attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) would stop and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would gain access to the station, TASS notes.

Today, the head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, specified that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is being fired upon by Ukrainian troops from the cities of Marganets and Nikopol controlled by them in the Dnipropetrovsk region. According to him, after the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, two power units of the Zaporizhzhya NPP do not operate at full capacity.

For his part, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, indicated during a briefing that a high-voltage line was damaged at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant as a result of another shelling by Ukrainian troops, and a power surge occurred.
