Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov is the only foreign leader whose visit to Russia is currently scheduled for Victory Day, Vedomosti writes, citing sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, Zhaparov is expected to participate in the celebrations dedicated to the Victory Day. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not respond to the newspaper’s request about whether any other foreign leaders, such as Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, could arrive in Moscow for the holiday.
Zhaparov was invited to Russia on March 31 by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, who oversees international relations in the government. “Of course, we always remember what contribution Kyrgyzstan made to this victory and the defense of Moscow, this is sacred for us,” Overchuk said at a meeting with the Kyrgyz president.
In 2022, no foreign leader attended the Victory Day parade. As stated in the Kremlin, the decision not to invite foreign guests was taken due to the fact that the date was not an anniversary. For the same reason, guests from other countries were not invited in 2021 either.
