The Italian authorities have frozen the assets of Artem Uss, who was arrested in the republic at the request of the United States and escaped from house arrest pending extradition. As the local publication Il Messaggero clarifies, we are talking about a small villa and assets worth approximately 160 thousand euros.
As Italian Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said earlier, the country’s authorities are considering freezing the assets of a Russian businessman.
Recall, Artem Uss was detained on October 17, 2022 at Milan Malpensa Airport at the request of the US authorities, when he was about to fly to Turkey. The US Attorney’s Office charged him with violating Western sanctions against the Russian Federation and Venezuela, illegal transactions and money laundering.
Italian judges allowed the extradition of Artem Uss to the United States, while they eased restrictions on him. At the end of March, Uss managed to escape and return to Russia.
Later it became known that the Italian Ministry of Justice intends to check the Milanese judges, who replaced the decision on detention with detention under house arrest.
