The Starship rocket was deliberately destroyed a few minutes after launch due to problems with the engines and the beginning of the loss of altitude, the SpaceX press service said.

According to a statement from the company, the ship “failed several engines, lost altitude and began to spin.” After that, the command was given to complete the flight for both the spacecraft and the booster.

SpaceX also noted that, in accordance with standard procedure, the launch site and the surrounding area were closed long before the start of the test. According to the company, the road and beach near the site will remain closed until the next day.

Authorities in Port Isabel, about 5 miles from the SpaceX site, said facilities in the city were covered with sand and earth particles thrown into the air by the rocket.

Recall that the first test flight of the heaviest launch vehicle in the history of Starship took place on the second attempt on the afternoon of April 20. A few minutes after launch, the rocket exploded. The preliminary reason was called problems in the separation of steps.
