The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the explosion in Belgorod on April 20 was caused by an “abnormal descent of aviation ammunition” during the flight of the Su-34 VKS over the city, Kommersant writes. The department said they are already investigating.
“As a result, there are damages to residential buildings, there are no casualties,” the ministry said in a statement.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported that two people were injured in the explosion. “A woman with a craniocerebral injury in a state of moderate severity was taken to city hospital No. 2. The second woman with bruises refused hospitalization, all the necessary medical care was provided on the spot,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
In addition, four cars were damaged, and destruction was found in four apartments in an apartment building near the explosion site. All residents of the affected apartments were offered temporary accommodation in a hotel.
Recall that the explosion in Belgorod occurred tens of meters from residential buildings. As a result, a funnel with a radius of 20 m was formed there, knocking down power lines nearby.
