This year there are 176 tons seized nationwide, a record number.
The discovery of 4,433 packages of cocaine (4.4 tons) in a Guayaquil warehouse surprised even the agents who were investigating the drug trafficking network.
It took place at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in a winery sector in Mapsingue Oeste. The property was already being watched by the Police, as it was presumed that drugs were being stored. It was a warehouse for agricultural products.
The police officers said they saw a truck enter. The vehicle came from the province of Carchi. His badge alerted the agents, they decided to act and the place was raided. In the vehicle were more than four tons of alkaloid in blocks with different logos.
“They see that a truck enters, then leaves with an unusual attitude from the occupants of the truck. There was one of the people on the street corners doing surveillance. Faced with this situation, they decided to intervene in this winery ”, explained Geovanny Naranjo, district chief of the Police.
In this operation the Police detained four people; two that arrived in the vehicle and two more that were in the warehouse. In addition, the authority indicated that the drug was camouflaged in the truck.
“The truck was used to transport livestock, what is found there is manure. And camouflaged in the truck, drugs were found, ”Naranjo explained. Two of the detainees came aboard the vehicle, another was inside the warehouse, while the fourth apprehended was guarding the exteriors.
The Police began investigations to determine where the shipment was going and to which criminal organization it belonged. In Quevedo, that same afternoon, there was another important seizure. Agents of the National Anti-Narcotics Directorate found 336 kilos of cocaine.
The Police have seized, so far in 2021, 176 tons of drugs nationwide. Last year (from January to December) they seized 120 tons.
The Anti-Narcotics Directorate indicated that this year, only in national ports, 64 tons of drugs have been seized.
