The Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) have re-declared a ceasefire for 24 hours from Wednesday evening after an earlier failed ceasefire attempt. It is reported by Interfax with reference to the Associated Press.

“The truce began at 18:00 local time (19:00 Moscow time) on Wednesday for humanitarian purposes,” the Sudanese army said in a statement to AP.

It notes that the ceasefire will last until next evening.

On Tuesday, the opposing sides had already agreed on a truce for 24 hours. However, according to the Central Committee of Doctors of Sudan, the fighting continued.

On the fifth day of the clashes, at least 270 people are known to have died, and more than 2,600 were injured.

The capital of Sudan, Khartoum, is experiencing power outages, lack of drinking water and food, offices and schools are closed. Due to the lack of electricity, hospitals cannot function normally. Amid this situation, many residents are trying to leave Khartoum.

The situation in Sudan deteriorated on Saturday, when clashes with the use of heavy weapons broke out between the army and the RRF in Khartoum and some other cities. The statements of the RRF command said that the current situation has developed after the armed forces, without any prior notice, besieged one of their bases in the southern suburbs of Khartoum. The army command, in turn, explained its actions by the fact that the RRF had recently acted more than once without any coordination with the military.
