The Russians began to actively buy up tours to the Maldives for the New Year and winter holidays. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press secretary of the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) Irina Tyurina.
According to Tyurina, the demand for this destination has remained high for two years now, as the Maldives opened to tourists faster than other countries after the pandemic. This year, Russian tourists started booking New Year’s tours in the middle of summer, she specified.
Demand for trips to the Maldives also increased thanks to Aeroflot, which announced daily flights to this destination from October 30. The cost of a tour for two starts from 450 thousand rubles, of which about 280 thousand rubles will have to be spent on a ticket in economy class. Business class tickets cost more than a million, but they are also actively sold out, the PCT said.
Last year, almost 125 thousand Russians went to the Maldives, and the Russian Federation took a leading position in terms of tourist flow in this direction. In the first six months of this year, the flow of tourists from Russia decreased to 82 thousand people, and the Indians took the first place, displacing the citizens of the Russian Federation to the third.
In March, the authorities of the Maldives canceled PCR tests for tourists, regardless of whether they had been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
