As a result of clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Reaction Forces (RRF), 270 people were killed in the country, more than 2.6 thousand were injured, said the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at a briefing for journalists.
Including, according to the head of WHO, three employees of the UN World Food Program died. Ghebreyesus noted that the work of medical institutions in Sudan is limited due to the unsafe situation, the access of medical workers and ambulances to the victims is difficult.
In addition, stocks of medicines transferred by WHO to medical institutions have been exhausted. Hospitals in the Sudanese capital Khartoum also reported shortages of staff and life-saving medicines.
The conflict between the Sudanese special forces and the army began on April 15. The parties mutually accused each other of shelling the units’ posts. The army struck at the positions of the special forces, some of them were taken under control. The leadership of the armed forces announced the dissolution of the Rapid Reaction Force, refusing to negotiate with them.
