The G7 countries will keep Russian assets blocked until the conflict in Ukraine ends. According to RBC, this is stated in the joint statement of the foreign ministers of the states after the meeting in Japan.
“Russian sovereign assets in our jurisdictions will remain immobilized until the conflict related to Russia’s violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is resolved. Any settlement of the conflict must ensure that Russia pays for the damage it has caused,” the statement said.
In addition, the G7 countries plan to tighten sanctions against Russia, monitor their implementation and prevent third countries from “undermining” existing restrictions. The G7 again called on other states to “stop helping Russia” in the conflict.
The statement also indicated that the countries of the group intend to strengthen coordination “to prevent and respond to the supply of weapons to Russia by third parties” and will take action against those who finance the hostilities.
