The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, was denied entry to Moldova because of an attempt to “interfere in the internal affairs of the country”, and he is not recognized as persona non grata. This is stated in the message on the website of the border police of Moldova.
The ministry indicated that over the past 24 hours, 46 foreigners were denied entry to Moldova, who either could not substantiate the purpose of their trip, got confused in the statements, or provided conflicting information about the purpose of the visit to the country.
The release notes that claims by a “Russian official who recently returned from our country” that he has been declared persona non grata “are false.” The department emphasized that supporting a candidate in local elections in Moldova is not a good reason, and the authorities are asking Russian officials “to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of our country.”
Earlier today, Minnikhanov said that upon arrival in Moldova, at the invitation of local deputies Viktor Petrov and Alexander Sukhodolsky, the country’s authorities told him that he was an undesirable person and refused entry.
