Police aboard a patrol car entered a parking lot in the Abel Gilbert citadel, in the Duran canton, on Friday night, when they detected several men who were in a silver car and who suspiciously fled the place.
A police chase began that lasted a few minutes and ended with the car abandoned and the suspects fleeing in different directions.
The uniformed officers discovered that there were three rifles, a pistol, 10 magazines and more than 500 cartridges in the vehicle.
Lieutenant Colonel Hugo Villavicencio, Chief of the Durán District, mentioned that the vehicle involved was not reported as stolen and that the owner is already being investigated by special units. Villavicencio clarified that the car owner has no criminal record.
The Police presume that this arsenal was going to be handed over to a criminal gang and they try to locate the men who were in the vehicle, but the residents of the sector have not given any statement. (I)
