Hungary “in the interests of the farming community” banned the import of agricultural products from Ukraine until June 30, 2023, the press service of the government reports.
The temporary ban affected the import of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine, as well as some other agricultural products, Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy told reporters.
According to him, Ukrainian agricultural producers began to export to the European market, in addition to grain and oilseeds, a large amount of poultry meat, eggs and honey, which, due to the duty-free regime for the import of Ukrainian goods and low cost, can cause damage to Hungarian and Central European farmers, RBC reports. .
Budapest urged the EU to reconsider the temporary removal of tariffs and ensure fair market conditions for European agriculture.
Recall that last summer the European Union introduced a duty-free regime for the import of Ukrainian products until June 5, 2023.
On April 15, the Polish government restricted the import of agricultural products from Ukraine. We are talking about grain, sugar, fruits and vegetables, wine, beef and veal, milk and dairy products, eggs, poultry meat, etc. The ban is valid until June 30, 2023.
