Switzerland “insufficiently” counteracts the circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions by businessmen of the Russian Federation, the authorities of the G7 countries believe. In Bern, these accusations are denied and they intend to invite the ambassadors of the G7 countries for an explanatory conversation, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Swiss media.
Several Swiss publications reportedly published a letter dated April 5 and signed by the ambassadors of the G7 countries working in Bern and the EU ambassador. The message addressed to the Swiss government claims that the country’s law enforcement officials cannot investigate the activities of illegal financial institutions due to confidentiality rules.
The letter also notes that the Swiss State Secretariat for Economics (SECO) does not freeze the assets of “persons with dual citizenship, legal residents, persons with legal ties to Swiss legal entities.”
According to the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, the country’s economy ministry disagreed with the allegations. “Switzerland will invite all eight ambassadors to an explanatory conversation,” the newspaper writes.
