Although local elections are in the medium term, Guayaquil councilors still do not think about re-election

The councilors’ term ends in 2024 and the parties are already analyzing profiles.

The period for which the Guayaquil councilors were elected ends in 2024. In other words, half of their term has passed. While it is a relatively short time, councilors who have had television experience have not thought about re-election.

Jorge Rodriguez indicates that for now he is only thinking of continuing to shore up his campaign promises and projects that they are currently managing with the Women’s Directorate, such as supporting women leaders to train them in skin cancer prevention and entrepreneurship. “We also want to create a village to be able to make university-age children with intellectual disabilities independent, as it is in Spain, so that they can be independent and do not have to stay with their parents. This has already received the go-ahead from the mayor”, dice.

While, Luzmila Nicolalde He will no longer be able to run for reelection, since the current one is his second term as councilor. He states that “he does not know what will happen after” his term ends, but “he will always be there to serve the people”, even from the private sector. And that it will continue to manage ordinances and projects.

People didn’t know, until I got into politics in 2006, that I had 30 years of experience in private business. I had experience in everything that is logistics and television was a hobby, but I put my business knowledge into practice in the public function”, dice.

He assures that for now, from his seat as councilor, he will continue to promote initiatives for Guayaquil residents to exercise and know their rights. In addition, it works on an ordinance that would benefit people with disabilities.

Instead, Úrsula Strenge he acknowledges that what has cost him the most about being a councilor is “being a politician.” He affirms that within the Christian Social Party the issue of reelection has not yet been debated and that he has not personally decided whether he would accept to run again.

What moves me is to be close to people, the social and bringing solutions to their problems and needs. I have had to learn political issues, political strategies, legal processes as I go along, but I still feel that I am not a political woman. I know that the objectives of the next elections are beginning to move, but I am leaving with caution. I have told the mayor to count on me, I don’t know if as a councilor, but as a citizen”, He says.

He says that he will now dedicate himself to promoting projects and initiatives to improve the emotional health of Ecuadorians and to help establish, for next year, the first mental health center in Guayaquil.

Unlike Strenge, Andres Guschmer he thinks “every day” if he would go to a re-election, since although the work of councilor is enriching, it is exhausting, he affirms: “My brother tells me not to throw myself and enjoy my family, my children, sleep until later, but I am moved by the recognition of the people ”.

He cites as an example when he saw parents “crying” at the inauguration of a field in El Cisne 2: “Perhaps those projects would have been done without me, but it is excellent to know that it was managed to promote these initiatives. Although there are also people who criticize you, especially on social networks, and that makes me think about re-election”, dice. (I)
