The head of the LDPR faction, Pavel Itkin, became vice-speaker of the St. Petersburg parliament. He was elected by secret ballot, the leader of the Communist Party faction Roman Kononenko competed with him, Kommersant-SPb reports.
Before choosing a new speaker, the parliamentarians voted for the early termination of the powers of Marina Shishkina. For the early termination of Shishkina’s powers, 42 out of 48 people voted – 39 for and 3 against. She herself was not present at the meeting of the Legislative Assembly.
Pavel Itkin is the current head of the LDPR faction, deputy chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, member of the permanent commission on youth policy and public associations.
“First of all, I want to thank you for your trust! I believe that the position of vice chairman is not a political position, it is primarily work with each other. You know perfectly well that I can not only listen, but also hear. We have a lot in common, tasks, we can always agree on everything and make the optimal and correct decision that will benefit both our beloved city and our residents, ”Itkin said from the podium.
Pavel Itkin’s candidacy was supported by 30 parliamentarians. 10 deputies voted for Kononenko.
Recall, on April 5, it became known that Marina Shishkina was leaving the post of vice-speaker of the Legislative Assembly and leaving the Just Russia party. She stated that she would take up a new political project, close to her “in spirit and conscience.” Nadezhda Tikhonova became the head of the regional branch of the Socialist-Revolutionaries in St. Petersburg. The media reported that the split between the St. Petersburg and Moscow branches of the party occurred due to the fact that party leader Sergei Mironov is leaning towards a political alliance with the head of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin.
