The leak of classified documents in the United States, which, according to the US Department of Defense, were “sensitive and highly classified materials”, could have occurred outside the Pentagon, Fox News reports, citing sources from the US Department of Defense and Intelligence.
As of April 11, 53 documents have been posted online, many of which are dated February 23 and March 1. Among them, according to the channel, were highly classified intelligence that was not included in any of the Pentagon briefings. Most likely, these data were obtained by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA).
This intelligence is not easily accessible to those who work in the Pentagon, so the leak could have occurred outside the department, Fox News notes.
A spokesman for the US Department of Defense told the TV channel that each department will have its own person responsible for investigating the leak, but so far there is not a single person leading all interagency work.
