Brittney Greiner, a two-time Olympic basketball champion with the US team, is working on a memoir that will focus on her imprisonment in Russia. It is reported by RBC with reference to the Associated Press.

The book is expected to be released in the spring of 2024.

“That day [в феврале 2022 года] was the beginning of an incomprehensible period in my life, which I am ready to share only now. <…> After an incredibly difficult ten months of detention, I am grateful that I was rescued and that I am at home. Readers will hear my story and understand why I am so grateful for the support of people from all over the world,” Greiner said.

Greiner said she also hopes her book will raise awareness of other Americans arrested abroad, including The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Hershkovich.

Greiner was detained in February 2022 at Sheremetyevo Airport after vape cartridges with hash oil were found in her luggage.

Against the American, a criminal case was initiated on the smuggling of drugs in a significant amount; in July, Greiner pleaded guilty, but denied the intent to commit a crime. In August, the Khimki court sentenced the basketball player to nine years in prison and a large fine.

On December 8, Greiner was exchanged at Abu Dhabi airport for Viktor Bout, a Russian citizen convicted in the United States of arms trafficking and supporting terrorism.

Greiner has been playing for the UMMC club from Yekaterinburg since 2015. As part of the US team, the basketball player won the Olympic Games (2016, 2020) and the World Championships (2014, 2018) twice.
