People who seek to lose weight are often sure that for this it is enough to remove sweets and starchy foods from the diet. However, there are other products that add extra calories, preventing weight loss, Vechernyaya Moskva writes, citing dietitian Elena Solomatina.

According to the expert, dairy products can become an obstacle to getting rid of extra pounds: they contain fat and contribute to its accumulation in the body. In addition, dairy products can raise cholesterol levels.

Vegetables and fruits can also be not so harmless. It is impossible to completely exclude them from the diet, since they give a feeling of satiety and replenish the body with the necessary trace elements. However, they should be consumed in a reasonable amount and are best raw, because during heat treatment, some types of vegetables increase the glycemic index. This, in particular, carrots, beets, pumpkins and potatoes: their use instantly raises blood sugar levels. It is best to add to your diet those vegetables that have a low glycemic index: seaweed, asparagus, onions, radishes, tomatoes, peppers and white cabbage.

In addition, instant porridge and muesli can interfere with the acquisition of an ideal figure, Solomatina said. They contain “empty carbohydrates” that do not bring any benefit to the body. But you can add unsweetened berries or fruits to the cereal: kiwi, raspberries, apples, strawberries and blueberries.

And finally, it is worth remembering the high calorie content of store-bought juices and nectars: such drinks contain a huge amount of sugar and carbohydrates, and some chemicals contained in juices can remove calcium from the body. Solomatina advised to replace such drinks with freshly squeezed ones prepared at home.
