The State Duma has adopted two bills that simplify the procedure for recognizing servicemen as dead or missing during the military operation in Ukraine. The documents were published on the website of the lower house of parliament.
According to the bill, to recognize the military dead, it will be enough to have witnesses to his death. If there is no information about the place of residence of a serviceman, and commanders or colleagues cannot confirm his death, then he is recognized as missing in six months, and not in a year, as now.
Three months after receiving the status of a missing person, members of the military’s family can, through the court, have him declared dead. According to the current legislation, for this you need to wait two years from the end of hostilities.
“The adoption of these laws will help families in the prompt execution of documents necessary to receive social and insurance payments, provide social support measures, ensure the safety of property of military personnel, and the possibility of inheriting it,” said one of the authors of the bills, MP Pavel Krasheninnikov.
He clarified that the new rules apply not only to military personnel, but also to law enforcement officers, as well as to citizens temporarily located in the war zone, for example, journalists.
