Israel is providing Ukraine with humanitarian aid and support in the field of civil defense, but no decision has been made regarding the transfer of lethal weapons, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an address to the people, writes the Times of Israel.
At the same time, the politician added that he would do “everything in his power to help resolve this conflict.”
The possibility of Israel’s transfer of lethal weapons to Ukraine is considered in materials from the “leaked documents” of the United States. The material is titled “Israel: Ways of Providing Lethal Assistance to Ukraine”. It states that Israel “may consider providing lethal assistance to [Украине] under increasing US pressure or perceived degradation” of relations with Russia. The documents described four likely scenarios. The most likely of them, the US authorities considered the “Turkish model”, in which Israel would sell air defense systems to another state, then they would end up in Ukraine, but publicly the Israeli authorities would continue to offer mediation in resolving the conflict.
In March, the Israeli prime minister said that the country could not supply weapons to Ukraine because of an agreement with Russia on Syria. In addition, the Knesset noted that Israel does not have enough weapons to help Ukraine without compromising its own security.
