The US authorities have not yet determined who is responsible for the recent leak of US classified documents, and do not know if new similar incidents are possible in the near future. According to Interfax, this was stated by the representative of the US National Security Council, John Kirby.

“We don’t know what’s in those documents, we don’t know who is responsible for it, and we don’t know if those who did this have more documents they want to release. We are monitoring the situation as closely as possible. But the truth is, we don’t have the information right now,” Kirby said during a White House press briefing.

At the same time, he noted that the situation worries the American administration. Kirby, despite numerous requests from journalists, did not clearly confirm that all the documents that got into the public domain were real.

Earlier, The New York Times reported that a new portion of classified documents appeared on social networks on Friday, reflecting the US policy “from Ukraine to the Middle East and China.” They specifically include “confidential briefing slides on China, the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and the fight against terrorism.”

On Thursday, the newspaper wrote about the first batch of secret documents that concerned the Ukrainian army.

The Ministry of Justice and the FBI joined the investigation in connection with the leak of secrets. According to the Associated Press, the documents “are dated from February 23 to March 1 and also contain what appears to be detailed information on the progress of arms and equipment shipments to Ukraine, with more precise dates and quantities than the United States usually provides publicly.”

Officials acknowledged that the documents appear to be real intelligence and operational reports compiled by the US Department of Defense. However, tracing the original source of the leak “can be difficult as hundreds, if not thousands, of U.S. military and other government officials have the security clearances needed to gain access to the documents.”
