Large-scale command and staff exercises to control aviation and air defense forces in resolving crisis situations in the Arctic Ocean region began in the Northern Fleet. This was reported in the press service of the Federation Council.
“Particular attention during the exercise will be paid to ensuring the safety of the maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation and maritime communications, such as the Northern Sea Route,” the message says.
It notes that the coherence of the actions of tactical aviation groups, air defense units in the course of carrying out joint training and combat missions in the Arctic will be checked.
The exercises are held with the participation of up to 1800 people, about 85 units of military and special equipment, 40 aircraft, up to 15 ships and support vessels. They are held in two stages over several days under the leadership of the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseev.
“At various stages of the exercise, interaction with the naval forces of the fleet, as well as aircraft of the long-range aviation command of the Russian Aerospace Forces, will be worked out,” reports the Federation Council.
