Former US President Donald Trump said that if Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis decides to run in the Republican primary, it will split the party. It is reported by Interfax.
“Ron DeSantis is a young man who, according to the polls, is not very good at fighting me, to put it mildly,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial. “I believe that if he decides to run for president, it will only cause harm and a little discord in the Republican Party.”
At the same time, according to Trump, if DeSantis remains the governor of Florida and does not participate in the primaries, then “it will be a completely different story.”
DeSantis has not yet announced his decision to run for president. However, according to the American media, he is expected to do so in the coming months.
A poll at the end of March showed that 50% of those polled who support this party are ready to vote for former US President Donald Trump in the Republican primaries, and 24% for DeSantis. Trump announced his intention to participate in the presidential election at the end of 2022.
The US presidential election will take place in 2024. Before that, both Democrats and Republicans will have to choose who will be their candidate.
