As long as there are “occupied territories” and “frozen conflicts” in Europe, there can be no talk of a European security architecture. According to RBC, this statement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron. In addition, in his opinion, now is not the time for negotiations on Ukraine.

Macron pointed out that the Chinese side draws “the same conclusion” – today is wartime.

“The Ukrainians are resisting and we are helping them,” Macron said, adding that now is not the time for negotiations. The President indicated that the purpose of his dialogue with Chinese President Xi Jinping was to consolidate approaches to the conflict. At the same time, he doubted that Ukraine is a priority for Chinese diplomacy. However, this dialogue allows to soften comments about China’s “favor” to Russia, Macron explained.

According to him, Europe should fight for strategic autonomy so as not to depend on other countries in critical matters.

Recall, the President of France, together with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, arrived in China on April 5. The media wrote that one of the purposes of the visit was that China would reconsider its decision to cooperate with Russia. However, journalists say, Paris failed to change Beijing’s position on Ukraine and to condemn Moscow’s actions.
