A compilation of leaked Pentagon documents on social media indicates that the United States is spying not only on Russia, but also on its allies, in particular Ukraine’s top military and political leaders. According to Interfax, The New York Times writes about this.

As an example, the publication reports that “on the pages posted on the Internet, there are at least two discussions about the internal debate in South Korea.” During these debates, the issue of American supplies of artillery shells to Ukraine was discussed. One document said South Korean officials were concerned that White House chief Joe Biden would call the South Korean president to pressure Seoul to supply the shells.

“Such documents can damage diplomatic relations,” the newspaper notes. According to the authors of the publication, “leakage of information has already complicated relations with allied countries and raised doubts about America’s ability to keep its secrets.”

The newspaper writes: “After reviewing the documents, a senior Western intelligence official said that the release of the material was painful, and suggested that this could limit the exchange of intelligence.”

For different agencies to provide material to each other, the official said, trust and assurances that certain confidential information will be kept secret are required.

As The New York Times reported the day before, a new batch of classified documents surfaced on social media on Friday reflecting U.S. policy “from Ukraine to the Middle East to China” and includes “confidential briefing slides on China, the Indo-Pacific actions, the Middle East and terrorism”.

On Thursday, the newspaper wrote about the first batch of secret documents that were published on Twitter and Telegram and related to the strengthening of the Ukrainian army. The Pentagon is studying the situation and finding out who may be behind the leak, the publication reported, citing senior administration officials.

The Ministry of Justice and the FBI joined the investigation in connection with the leak of secrets. According to the Associated Press, the documents “dated between February 23 and March 1 and appear to contain detailed information on the progress of arms and equipment shipments to Ukraine with more precise dates and quantities than the United States usually provides publicly.”

Officials acknowledged that the documents appear to be real intelligence and operational reports compiled by the US Department of Defense. However, tracing the original source of the leak “can be difficult as hundreds, if not thousands, of U.S. military and other government officials have the security clearances needed to gain access to the documents.”
