Since February 24, 2022, the Czech police have opened 95 criminal cases against citizens of the country, whose actions can be interpreted as support for the Russian special operation in Ukraine. It is reported by RBC with reference to the news portal of the Czech Radio.
“We opened 95 criminal cases. In these cases, we do know that a criminal offense has been committed,” said spokesman for the agency, Ondrej Moravcik. 67 suspects were charged, Moravcik said.
Reports of crimes related to the support of the special operation come from citizens of the country, he specified.
Public support for the actions of Russia in Ukraine or the Russian leadership can be considered a statement on a social network, participation in a rally or demonstration, the Czech Prosecutor General Igor Strzhizh explained earlier. These actions can be interpreted as the approval of a crime, the denial or connivance of a crime, the approval or justification of genocide under Art. 365 and 405 of the Czech Criminal Code, he said. Violators face a penalty of imprisonment for up to three years.
