The leadership of the Bundeswehr plans to purchase additional equipment to suppress drones. It is reported by RBC with reference to Tagesspiegel.
This decision is connected with suspicious flights of unknown drones, which in the past few months have been recorded in places where Ukrainian military personnel are trained.
Who exactly controlled the drones is unknown, but an unnamed source of the publication suggested that “agents of the Russian special services” may be related to this. The German Defense Ministry declined to comment on “any security incidents.”
Now the Bundeswehr uses HP47 drone suppression equipment. German authorities started buying them last summer, when suspicious drones were first spotted. Now the procurement process has been stepped up, since the funds already available to suppress UAVs are not enough.
The territorial command of the Bundeswehr said they could not disclose exact data on the number of equipment for suppressing drone signals and their locations “for reasons of military security.”
According to the publication, last year, flights of unknown drones were recorded not only near the cities of Idar-Oberstein (Rhineland-Palatinate) and Grafenwöhr (Bavaria), where Ukrainian military personnel trained. At least one such incident, which can be qualified as an “espionage attempt”, took place in Münster (Lower Saxony), where the Ukrainian military is learning to operate Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard 2 tanks.
