A new batch of American classified documents has appeared on the Internet related to the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East and China, as well as the fight against terrorism, writes The New York Times. The US Department of Justice said it has launched an investigation and is in contact with the Pentagon on the matter.
According to the newspaper, on Friday, April 7, more than 100 documents were published on social networks. It is noted that one of them is dated February 23, it is marked “Secret / Noforn” – that is, the data is not intended for transfer to other countries.
According to officials and analysts interviewed by the publication, the scale of the leakage of confidential information could cause “tremendous damage.” In particular, the American intelligence community called the incident “a nightmare for the Five Eyes” (Five Eyes is an intelligence alliance that includes the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom).
Former Pentagon and CIA official Mick Mulroy said the leak represents a “significant security breach” that could harm Ukrainian military planning. “It looks like this was a deliberate leak by someone who wanted to damage the efforts of Ukraine, the US and NATO,” he added.
Recall, on the eve of the NYT reported that documents appeared on Twitter and Telegram with information about the secret plans of the United States and NATO to strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces on the eve of the counteroffensive.
