A national plan for the implementation of the program “St. Petersburg – the cultural capital of the Commonwealth” was approved. Petersburg was previously declared the cultural capital of the CIS in 2023.
The plan includes more than 200 federal and city events. Among them are festivals, exhibitions, concerts, lectures, flash mobs and others. Including such landmarks as the City Day, the Cultural Forum, the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture and the International Book Fair. They will be attended by city and federal cultural institutions, as well as creative teams, representatives of the library and museum community and writers from the CIS countries.
“St. Petersburg is traditionally one of the main symbols of the cultural life of Russia. I am convinced that the honorary status of the cultural capital of the CIS will allow the city to expand cultural ties with foreign partners, and the cultural institutions of the Commonwealth countries will adequately represent all the cultural wealth of our peoples,” commented Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Governor Alexander Beglov recalled that this year St. Petersburg will celebrate the 320th anniversary of its founding. “Our city is connected with the CIS countries by cultural and spiritual traditions and a common history. Representatives of many peoples of the Russian Empire lived, studied, and received wide recognition in St. Petersburg. Cultural figures of our countries have never broken ties with each other. Our friendship is only getting stronger,” Beglov said.
