More than 150 policemen and gendarmes were injured during the riots that broke out during demonstrations against pension reform in France. This was reported by TASS with reference to the statement of Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.
“154 law enforcement officers were injured during the day during the riots that arose during the demonstrations,” the minister wrote. “Some law enforcement officers were seriously injured.” Darmanen noted that 111 people were detained for various violations.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 370 actions took place in the country, in which about 570 thousand people took part, including 57 thousand in Paris. Security was provided by 11.5 thousand police and gendarmerie officers, 4.2 thousand in the capital.
A pension reform project that would raise the retirement age in France from 62 to 64 and abolish some of the special pension regimes was presented in January. This initiative caused demonstrations and strikes throughout the country. About 750,000 people took part in the 10th nationwide protest, which took place on March 28, according to the Interior Ministry. On Thursday, the 11th action takes place in France, the next one is scheduled for April 13th.
