By the end of April, more than 16,000 Ukrainian servicemen will complete training in the EU. According to RBC, this was stated by the commander of the EU training mission, Vice Admiral Herve Blezhan, at a security forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

“I am in command of all EU military missions, including the new military support mission for Ukraine, which was established on 15 November. Taking into account this month, we must already prepare more than 16 thousand Ukrainian soldiers,” he said.

Preparations are being carried out “in full coordination” with EU partners, the commander emphasized.

The fact that the EU countries have agreed on the creation of a military mission to train the Ukrainian military in several member states of the community was reported in October by Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing sources close to the negotiations. The mission was established on October 17, a month later it began work.

The European Council called the goal of the mission “increasing the military potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine so that they can protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.” At the first stage, it was planned to train 15,000 Ukrainian servicemen. In February, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced that it was decided to increase the number of military personnel who will be trained to 30 thousand people.
