A group of State Duma deputies proposed to legislatively extend the days off from May 1 to May 9. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press service of the New People party.
“It is proposed to extend the May holidays by reducing non-working days at the beginning of the year. New Year holidays are proposed to be set from January 1 to January 3, another day off will remain on January 7, for Christmas. The total number of days off in Russia will remain the same.
Such an initiative was made by deputies Alexey Nechaev, Vladislav Davankov, Sangadzhi Tarbaev, Anna Skroznikova, Anton Tkachev and Georgy Arapov.
According to opinion polls, two-thirds of Russians do not leave the house during the January holidays, the party notes. And during the May holidays, people could spend more time on the street without fear of injury due to ice, pyrotechnics. In addition, work productivity during the short working period during the May holidays is small, the party said.
Currently, the regions can independently establish additional days off for the May holidays, but last year, for example, the May holidays were extended only in Adygea.
